Read and disposed of Bills: in the amount of $16,848.17 from June 16 to July 6 (big expense items were over $12,200 for siding, payroll and $2000 in academic scholarships.

Social Committee: Will need to notify Porky’s BBQ one week prior; also discussed possible sides and desserts. Nancy will notify members about the deadline and we will need a count from the AFL kids for the August 1 Pig Roast.

 

Unfinished Business: Talked about updating our website. Do not have Don Free showing as the Noble Grand. Nancy will say something to Ken to see if he can update that part of the website. Bob Fink thanked us for having a stand at the Car Show. Next year’s show will be held in May; we have been invited back. Nancy brought up that we need to have something to draw people to our table. No one shows and interest if you just have a stand. Suggestions: work on getting a youth program and have them help when we go public to draw in younger people. Have a popcorn machine, a game, some kind of activity, etc.

 

New Business: None

Mt. Zion Lodge #74 met in regular session at 7:00 p.m. with NG Don Free presiding

 

Roll Call: taken with absentees noted… Bros Blankenship and Seyler

 

Reading of the Records: were approved with corrections to communications and the number of members attending was 9 instead of 8. The July 6 communication report was not deleted and was shown on July 20 report.

 

Sick and Distressed: William Curry is doing well. He will be given 2 weeks of sick benefits. Sick benefits for 6 weeks to Carl Gladfelter at $50.00 for a total of $300.00 and Andy Strausbaugh for 1 week at $50.00 and 5 weeks at $25 for a total of $175.00.

 

Visiting Committee Report: Communications: were read and disposed of. Information was received from the Grand Lodge.

 

See Old & New Business for information. Bills: in the amount of $0.00. A full report will be presented at the August 3 meeting.

 

Application for Membership: Interviewing Committee Report: Balloting: Degree work: Charles Males will check with Clark Ruppert if he would be comfortable doing some degree work. If Clark declines, Charlie said he would be willing to do it. Those wanting to pursue their degree work should notify the Lodge so arrangements can be made. Nancy will send out a notice to members.

 

Finance Committee: No report.

 

Building Committee: Discussion on getting a new cleaner, cleaners not here for several weeks; The committee will need to do some cleanup before the Pork BBQ on August 1; Will ask Dave Minot about getting a new dartboard; A notification will be sent to members concerning the big white box that was in the entranceway - asking for bids; May donate some of our memorabilia to the History Center; Will see if they would like a display from us since they do rotating displays Social Committee: BBQ – will have a 20 x 20 tent in the yard; plan to have corn on the cob, baked beans and slaw. Will need to have a count from the Vietnam Vets and the York High football boys

 

Unfinished Business: Received notification from the Grand Lodge that the roof for the OSAGE #712 lodge is on hold until they decide if they want to stay there or consider moving. Mt. Zion had been asked to consider making a donation for a new roof.

 

New Business: The Grand Lodge sent out a notification of changes in dues for the coming year. Dues will be $12.00 per term per member (a term is 6 months). Aged Home is $2.50 per term per member and Sovereign Grand Lodge which is currently $11.75 per term will remain the same. Don asked if we would consider having a flag pole set up in the near future. Unanimous agreement Don will check with Bob Fink about a pole and flag.

 

Receipts in the amount of $0.00 were reported. A full report will be presented at August 3 meeting.

 

Drawing: won by Dave Zutell who was wearing a pin; $4 to be credited to dues.

 

Good of the Order: Nancy inquired if a donation should be made to the Gold Star Mother’s for inviting us to their car show. Don will check with Bob Fink. Comcast will not consider lowering our bill, listing us as a business. Nancy has offered to talk with them to see why we are classified as a business. Charles Males led the group in thanking NG Don Free for all his work he put into getting the siding and landscaping completed. Richard Marks asked if we would start using the sound system, since it is difficult to hear some of the members when they speak.

Sick and Distressed:Andy Strausbaugh twoweeks @$25 each; Carl Gladfelter final two weeks @ $25each; Rick Dibble’s benefits starting June 15 is due 8 weeks at $50 each.

 

Visiting Committee Report:

 

Communications: were read and disposed of.

Bills: Expenses for the month of June were$21, 817.96and July’s expenses were $5241.83; these were approved on a motionby Richard Marks and Dave Zutell.

 

Application for Membership:David A Cortes

 

Interviewing Committee Report:David was pronounced fit for membership

 

Balloting:Due to Covid-19 restrictions a verbal vote was taken. David was voted in as a member.

Degree work: Charles Males will do degree work for those who are interested. A date(s) will be provided at a later time.

 

Finance Committee: A meeting will be held on August 17 following the regularly scheduled meeting.

 

Building Committee: Don noted that Chuck & Clark helped to clean up before theBBQ;

Don has some leads on a flag pole; he will check with the township to see if 25’ pole is permitted.

 

Social Committee: BBQ –More than 50 people were in attendance. Charley expressed his thanks to everyone who helped him and Bill Curry to make this event happen.

 

Unfinished Business:Rental agreement will need to be finalized; need members to serve on this committee.

 

New Business:We are considering installing a Keypad so we will know who has been in the building.

 

Receipts: for the month of June were $7,436.79 leaving a balance of $11,973.22 and for the month of July through August 3 were $4,461.00 leaving a balance of $11,192.39.

 

Drawing: won by Richard Marks who was wearing apin; $4 to be credited to dues.

 

Good of the Order: The Lodge received a note from Jerry thanking us for the cards and flowers that were sent to his wife Mary following her accident.

Communications: were read and disposed of. Notifications from the Grand Lodge are under For the Good of the Order.

 

Bills: Expenses for August to date are $9, 525.64; approved on a motionby Dave Zutell and Charles Males. Jerry Seyler reported the ending July checking account balance $14,494.29.

Finance Committee: Finance committee will not meet tonight.

 

Building Committee: Don has information on different types of flag poles. The Vietnam Vets have volunteered to donate a MIA-POW flag for the flag pole and an American Flag for our meeting room.

 

Social Committee: Sight and Sound to see Queen Esther has been moved to September 25, 2021.Information on the Ladies Night/ Member Recognition at the Vikings on October 23 will be updated at the next meeting and the Christmas Dinner is scheduled for December 12.

 

Unfinished Business:A meeting will be held following tonight’s meeting to finalize the contract for Use of the Building.

 

New Business: None

Good of the Order: Grand Lodge News: Due to CoVid-19, elections are up to each Lodge’s discretion as to whether they want to elect new officers or keep the same officers for another year.

Grand Lodge update: Dues notification that was previously sent out was incorrect. Updated dues are: Per Capita-$12.00per term per member; Aged Home-$2.50per term per member and Sovereign Grand Lodge dues is $14.25 per term per member. This had been reported as $11.25.

Associate Member Harry Howe extended his thanks for his grandson’s scholarship for the upcoming year. He also updated us on the York Springs Lodge’s on going renovations.
